About

The Local Hazard Outlooks provides weather and hazard information for stakeholders in the Mid-Atlantic region, including Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, DC. Launched in Spring 2022, this resource is designed to support policymakers, practitioners, residents, and community leaders by offering accessible data that highlights regional changes in extreme weather and hazards. It emphasizes localized weather trends, helping to inform risk-reduction planning.

Our work draws on the best available data to look at how temperature, precipitation, sea-level rise, and other severe weather-related hazards will evolve in the coming decades. By focusing on local hazards, the Local Hazard Outlooks aims to foster risk reduction across all Mid-Atlantic localities.

Development of the Outlooks was supported by the Climate Program Office, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration through the Chesapeake Bay Coastal Climate Extension Pilot Program (NOAA grant NA18OAR4310302). Additional support was provided by MARISA, a NOAA CAP team (NOAA cooperative agreements NA16OAR4310179 and NA210OAR4310310), the Center for Coastal Resources Management (CCRM) at the Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences, and the Penn State Center for Climate Risk Management (CLIMA).
